Sahl Hasheesh horseback riding between desert and sea
Sahl Hasheesh horseback riding follows a simple geography: dry hills and sandy tracks on one side, the Red Sea on the other. Guided rides head into the desert, then drop to the beach where the horses walk through shallow water. Stables around the bay list a Makadi Bay trail and a ride on the Sahl Hasheesh beach, and the Egyptian tourism authority describes guided horse and camel rides in the hills behind Hurghada as a regular activity.
The rides below range from a two-hour outing to longer rides of up to five hours.
Our take
The two-hour desert and sea ride starts in Sahl Hasheesh itself; the sunrise ride adds another departure time and a longer route.

Choose between a two-hour desert and sea ride, sunrise or sunset departures and a longer VIP route with swimming.
The two-hour ride that starts in Sahl Hasheesh
The desert and sea ride is the one rooted in the bay itself. It lasts two hours: first a stretch through the desert, then a ride into the shallow sea water on a trained horse, with a local guide and a helmet. Swimming is optional, and the stable takes all experience levels, from first-time riders to confident ones. Pickup is available as a booking option; the exact meeting point depends on the option you choose.
This is the easiest choice if you want a short, simple outing that still covers both landscapes.

Longer rides: sunrise, sunset and VIP
Two rides use Hurghada-area routes and offer more time in the saddle. The desert and sea adventure lasts two to five hours in total: usually two hours of riding, or a four-hour VIP version. Swimming with the horse belongs only to the VIP option, and breakfast only to the sunrise departure. The sunrise and desert ride offers sunrise and sunset variants with the same two-hour or four-hour choice.
That second ride sets clear limits: it is not open to riders over 110 kg, pregnant guests, people with back problems or limited mobility, or wheelchair users. Free cancellation applies up to 24 hours ahead.
The evening option
The evening programme is a three-hour outing that adds a stop at Makadi Bay and stargazing to the horse ride. A horse is included for every guest, as are bottled water and an air-conditioned vehicle. It is not recommended with back problems or pregnancy.
What to wear and when the stables run
Wear long trousers and closed shoes, plus sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen; a scarf helps against dust and wind. For winter mornings and evenings, bring a light jacket. A local stable opens daily from 07:00, closes at times that change with the season, and may close in heavy weather or when the track is in very poor condition.
Beginners and experienced riders are both welcome at the Sahl Hasheesh stable.
